This patient had severe congenital scoliosis treated with a posterior fusion without instrumentation at age 7 in another country.
Her deformity worsened in time with growth. The curvature progressed with additional vertebral segments adding on to the curve, and also due to anterior spinal column growth with a posterior fusion also known as the crankshaft phenomenon.
The 3D scan is helpful in defining the complex deformity. A 3D printer model was used to plan the surgery.
An anterior approach was first utilized to perform a two-level vertebral column resection.
On a different day, the posterior resection was completed and correction of the deformity was performed with instrumentation.
