This is a female teenager with severe scoliosis associated with Spina Bifida.
In this case no anterior approach or release was performed. Instead, the spine was released from the posterior approach by removing ligaments and facet joints to make the spine more flexible.
One of the vertebral bodies was also removed from the posterior approach to help in getting additional correction of the scoliosis and the pelvic obliquity. A cage was placed in place of the vertebra that was removed. The cage can be seen on the x-rays.
The correction of the scoliosis and pelvic obliquity was performed with the help of the instrumentation.
Posterior fusion was performed using local bone and allograft.
The scoliosis and the pelvic obliquity correction can be seen on the before and after x-rays.
